What a week! We thought last week was crazy. We bought a car after spending the last two years as a one car family.
There was more craziness to come. Jason's division of AIG was sold on Saturday. Tuesday, Jason's bosses' boss called and offered him a regional manager position in the New York Manhattan office of the new Company. Oh my...what a shock. It was a huge promotion, but it would take him into a career path that diverges from what he is doing now. We both went to the Lord in serious prayer and decided that he would decline the position. His bosses's boss was very gracious and told Jason anytime he wanted to move to NYC he would make it happen. It was huge compliment to be offered the job. Jason talked it over with his boss here. His position here is not being eliminated, they just thought Jason would be a good fit for the job. So we are staying where we are for now. It has become obvious to us that any job advancement for Jason will include a move to NYC. The ironic thing is that we were so ready to move to NYC two years ago, but it would be much harder right now.
Jason and I did talk about preparing the kids for a move would be better than hitting them with it out of the blue. When we told our daughter about the job offer, she immediately said, "No, we just got settled here." This morning, I talked to her about how we were not moving right now, but that we might move in a couple of years. I told her about some of the fun things NYC has to offer such as the theater and museums. She enjoyed talking about those things. She is such a trooper. We do try to include her in conversations that affect her. She is a special little girl. My son's take on the whole thing was, if he could take his tractors, he would be fine.
In other news, I started a new Bible study this morning. It is called Shepherding Your Child's Heart by Ted Tripp. I'm so excited. I love the subject matter. We are encouraged to do scripture memory. I so need that! We are also broken into small groups of 5 ladies. I have been lamenting to God that I didn't feel like I had any close friends here. The ladies in the group expressed the same need. I am excited about the possibility making new friends that are deeper than, "Hello, how are you" type friends. I love my college friends, but I don't get to see them nearly enough. Being in three different states doesn't help. I have one college friend that lives here, but we both have young families and we look up and wonder where the time went.
We are completing the adjustment to school. My daughter is cranky when she gets home from school. I am hoping that will smooth out soon. There are some days she is downright mean to me when she gets home. I can only guess that the crankiness comes from using every ounce of her self control at school. She is used up when she gets home. We are dealing with that and I am praying for it to get better. I guess my Bible study Shepherding Your Child's Heart is right on time. Thank you Lord!
My son is enjoying gymnastics. I am blogging while watching his class. The past two weeks he would not jump on the trampoline with the excuse that his legs hurt. He is a jumping fool right now on it. He has tried to use the towel bar in the bathroom as a parallel bar. Thankfully he didn't rip it out of the wall.
My daughter may be getting a new violin in the next month. She has done a lot of growing this summer. She doesn't know it yet, but I know she will be so excited. She seems to make progress in spurts. She will cruise along, then she gets a little lazy, doesn't put much effort into practicing, and I see progress slow. She just got a new song to learn. She is really excited about it and this one is coming along easily.
Next week is exciting because they will celebrate Grandparent's day at school. My Mom and Grandmother are planning to go. My daughter is so excited to get to eat lunch with them.
